This is the Impact of the Vegetarian Diet for Sperm

The vegetarian lifestyle is believed to be able to prolong life and make life healthier. But apparently, the latest researchers found the negative effects of being vegetarian on the quality of Sperm fertility.

Four years ago researchers from Loma Linda University Medical School began a project to find out how diets made by vegetarians can affect the quality of sperm. Apparently, the study proved that not eating meat can reduce the quality of sperm.

"We found that diet or diet significantly affected the quality of sperm. The vegetarians turned out to have a lower amount of Sperm than the diet of non-vegetarians," said Dr Eliza Orzylowska as quoted by the Telegraph and written Sunday (10/26/2014 )

In the study it was found that vegetarians have lower sperm counts compared to non-vegetarians. They have fewer Sperm numbers, which is only 50 million Sperm per ml compared to non-vegetarians, which are around 70 million Sperm per ml.

In addition, vegetarians also have lower Sperm motility. In non-vegetarians, active Sperm is around 60 percent of the total Sperm released. But for vegetarians, only one-third are active.

It's just that, vegetarians don't have to worry about their lifestyle. Researchers believe that the fertility vitamin deficiency experienced by vegetarians can be replaced by eating soy.

One factor why soybeans can replace the content of vitamins other than meat, because soy contains phyto-estrogens which are similar to estrogen in women. So that the nutrient content obtained from meat can be replaced with soy content.

"A new theory has been found that vegetarians can replace meat nutrition with soy, because soy contains phytooestrogens which can affect a person's fertility," said Dr Orzylowska, an obstetrician at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Besides soy, grapes, oranges and peaches can be a solution for vegetarians to improve the quality of sperm. In a study conducted by the University of Texas Medical Branch, fruits containing vitamin C were shown to increase the amount and motility of Sperm.

"On the one hand, fruits and vegetables may have a positive effect on fertility, especially fruits that are very high in antioxidants." said Jorge Chavarro from Harvard University.

Besides consuming soy and fruits, vegetarians can also consume oatmeal or food ingredients that contain whole wheat. Researchers say that oatmeal is rich in L-arginine, one type of amino acid that works with nitric oxide (NO) can reduce blood vessel stiffness.

The amino acids contained in oatmeal have also long been used to treat erectile dysfunction because it can help the muscles of the blood vessels around the penis to relax. That way when the veins widen, blood flow will increase so that vegetarians can maintain a longer erection.
